Welcome to the AUMSA website!
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh (Peace on you)!
The AUMSA team would like to welcome all of this year’s freshers and returning students to Aberdeen. Congratulations!
AUMSA is THE society for both Muslims and non-Muslims studying at the University of Aberdeen or Robert Gordon University. Our goal is to bring together people from all walks of life and unite them in a common cause: to gain the pleasure of Allah (swt). In the Qur'an, Allah (swt) states "Help one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety)." [5:2, The Holy Qur'an]. We aim to achieve just this: whether it is through lectures, study circles or the Islam Awareness Week. Our dinner parties and quiz nights are also a great opportunity to make new friends and meet like-minded people. At AUMSA we are dedicated to charity. As reported in Hadith, "Indeed Allah accepts the charity amd takes it by His own hand and makes it grow like one of you make grow your colt (little horse). Surely a morsal becomes like the mountain of Uhud." [al-Tirmidhi] So why not come along to one of our fundraising events during the year and help us help those who need it.
We have lots of exciting events planned for you guys this year and we look forward to meeting you at our events. Please come and introduce yourself at the freshers fayre and get your membership. If you have any questions or need any advice, please don't hesitate to ask. Our email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Similarly we welcome any suggestions for the society. This is our society; let’s make it a success together.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reported to have said, "Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise." [Muslim] I pray Allah (swt.) helps you gain the most from your time in Aberdeen and may He grant you success in the years ahead & the Hereafter. Ameen. Remember: work hard, pray harder!
Walikum- Asalaam,
AUMSA Team
Where to Pray
Prayer Room:
There is a designated prayer room in Old Aberdeen at Powis Gate. Access is via a back door facing the entrance to Crombie and requires a University ID card which must be swiped.
The Foresterhill prayer room is located behind the Maternity Hospital, near the IM&T building. Friday prayer takes place there at lunchtime and the Mosque is open for regular prayer at any time of the day.
A prayer room at the RGU School Hill campus is located on the top floor of the student association building where there are also 'wudu' facilities. The key for the this can be obtained downstairs. At Garthdee the prayer room is next to the refectory in the Scott Sutherland Building.
Mosque:
The Aberdeen mosque is located at 164 Spital - about 2 minutes walk up the hill from College Bounds. Here you will meet a people from all nationalities and backgrounds praying side-by-side. The best time to be here is during Ramadan, when the Mosque provides free iftars hosted by the Aberdeen community.
An up-to-date prayer timetable can be downloaded at: http://www.aberdeenmosque.org
